Director of Children and Youth Ministries-Full Time
First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield is seeking a hopeful, deeply caring, dedicated follower of Christ who is passionate about ministry to children and youth that helps them become whole persons, courageous, growing in faith, welcoming of diversity, committed to justice-seeking, and visionary about God’s future. This position is full-time, flexible, accompanied by a willing team of volunteers and committed staff.
Full-Time, $25 per hour. Flexible scheduling, 30 hours/week with benefits.
Position Description: Director of Children and Youth Ministries
Purpose: Direct, design, strengthen, support, and encourage a vital ministry for and with children, youth and their families that builds an environment for gaining wisdom, growing faith, gathering courage, cultivating friendship and expanding wholeness.
Ministry Responsibilities
• Work with the Pastor, the Council for Christian Education and its subcommittees to create and implement faith formation curriculum, service engagement and program ministries for children ages birth to college age.
• Recruit, train, help motivate and supervise volunteer leadership dedicated to all educational ministries including Sunday School, Tuesday Nights Together, special events, mission and service opportunities.
• Lead planning and implementation of seasonal and short-term educational programing for young children, youth and their families.
• Work with pastoral staff and Session to develop and support adult faith formation opportunities that relate to family and church community ministries.
• Work with the Pastor and the Director of Christian Beginnings, and supervise development of a faith-grounded learning environment in our preschool and day care.
• Cultivate and support warm and strong connections between all families, members, and visitors of the church, and Christian Beginnings.
• Assist pastoral staff with care giving as it relates to families with children and youth.
Administrative Responsibilities
• Coordinate proactive communications for Children and Youth Ministry through newsletters, email/eblasts, weekly announcements, website content, social media and others as needed
• With the office staff, supervise the recording and maintenance of program databases, financial records, scholarships, facilities use and calendars that relate to educational ministry in the life of the congregation
• Supervise and work with Session to keep up to date safety and security protocols as well as relevant guidelines for all educational ministries
• Attend meetings with the Pastor and staff regularly
Qualifications
• Proven leadership abilities in youth and children's ministries
• Strong communication skills for effective engagement with children and families
• Experience in teaching and mentoring
• Proficient in event planning and fundraising activities
• Knowledge of Christian counseling and social work principles
• Demonstrated experience working with children and youth in a ministry context
• Minimum of Bachelor of Arts in related field, preferred Certification in Christian Education
