Position Details:
The Hope Presbyterian Church Director of Music and Worship will partner with our pastor to challenge and guide HPC to live into its mission through choral and instrumental music, visual arts and musical expression that helps open the Word of God to a wide range of people. Hope’s Director of Music and Worship will develop the musical talents of the congregation, partner with the pastor to find musical expression appropriate to the liturgical and educational goals of the church, and work with the Worship Team to build the practices of justice, mercy, and faith through music and the arts.
The Director of Music and Worship is a key figure in shaping the worship experience for this Presbyterian church family by using music and arts in all forms to help the congregation connect with God and grow in their faith.
Essential Functions
• Direct Choirs and Ensembles for worship and special services throughout the liturgical year (e.g. Main Choir, Special Musicians, Children). Currently, Hope Presbyterian’s Adult Choir practices weekly, on Wednesday evenings, occasionally the children have presented a Christmas program.
• Communicate with Music Leaders and coordinate their participation in weekly, biweekly worship (e.g. Praise Team, Handbell Choir (Handbells are on loan for occasional worship opportunities. Handbell Choir practices on first and third Saturday mornings to play during worship once a month.)
• Work with the Pastor to select music and hymns appropriate to the liturgical content of worship. Record all music-related information in the church’s ‘Bulletin Information’ Binder maintained in the church office.
• Work with the Organist/Accompanist and Pastor to create intentional and consistent worship. When appropriate, coordinate outside musicians for worship services.
• Maintain the music library, manage supplies and oversee the maintenance of church instruments. At least once a year, arrange for the tuning of the church’s pianos (Rohde Piano Tuners) and organ (Murphy Organ Tuners).
• Work with Pastor and Worship Team on Sanctuary environment to enhance it with various elements.
• Attend monthly Worship & Music Team Meetings, weekly Staff Meetings and quarterly Worship Team Retreats.
