Position Details:
Expected duties include 2 services each Sunday, one at Rio Presbyterian and one at New Windsor Presbyterian, and on other occasions such as Christmas Eve, Lenten Services and others. Additional duties include baptisms, funerals, and weddings. We are open to talking about other opportunities. During the week, duties include regular office hours at each church, home visits, hospital visits, nursing home visits, congregational meetings, communion, and contribution to the monthly newsletter and congregational report. We are expecting community outreach and participation. We are expecting the visibility of our pastor within the communities. Each church will have a Pastoral Review Committee to provide feedback from the congregation on pastoral performance.
Our pastor should be able to approach all staff/volunteers promptly and in a non-confrontational manner, concerning all opinions. He or She should be willing to meet face-to-face, by phone call, text, or email to discuss aspects of the organization’s successful operation. Likewise, he/she should expect the same treatment from all staff/volunteers. All parties should expect tolerance, patience, and give and receive grace in this transitional time.
We are looking for support and leadership from a pastor. We expect the pastor to complement the activities already in place, bring in new opportunities, and take these opportunities into the communities. We anticipate the pastor be an active participant in our communities, time allowed.
Candidates must display a good skill set for presenting themselves and the church to the local community. Other skills should include being able to approach any person, regardless of age, profession, beliefs, or personal circumstances. A candidate should also be a leader, an empathetic listener, utilize effective time management, be competent with the use of technology, be knowledgeable of the Bible, and possess effective communication skills to inspire others beyond the pulpit.
Our communities are small towns that have changed from multi-generational to more transient residents as the older generations of original families pass on. This creates some disconnect in community and fellowship as the more recent residents do not have the same attachment, history, and pride in the community. This has also contributed to a decrease in church attendance.
